Shia LaBeouf returns to red carpet after 4 years, faces social media outrage

Shia LaBeouf actor, 37, was last seen on the red carpet way back on February 9, 2020. It was at the 92 annual Academy Awards that announced the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film with his co-star in The Peanut Butter Falcon, Zack Gottsagen.

Just recently, after dodging the limelight and public eye for some time, the Transformers actor made his public appearance at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in France for the premier night of his new film ‘Megalopolis.’ Written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, ‘Megalopolis’ shows territorial disputes between a visionary architect and a powerful mayor who both compete to take over the future of the ruined city named ‘New Rome.’ Stars like Aubrey Plaza, Adam Driver, Grace VanderWaal, Laurence Fishburne, and Giancarlo Esposit will be seen in the movie as well.

Director Coppola described the film as a “Roman epic in an imaginary decadent modern America.”

LaBeouf wore a black tux and had bleached blond hair and a beard to match the look.

However, some users expressed their disdain over the acting industry and Hollywood’s tolerance of letting abusers walk on the red carpet.

In 2020, FKA Twigs, a singer and songwriter, 36, filed a lawsuit against ex-boyfriend LaBeouf because of ‘relentless’ abuse she received and sexual harassment.

A user talked about the unjustified cancel culture revolving around matters of speaking up against genocide and tolerating abusers and giving them platforms.

“A reminder that this man is not an ‘actor who made a mistake’ but a dangerous and abusive man who is also an actor and has been protected by his industry and society,” another user commented.

In a podcast back in 2022, LeBeouf addressed the accusations of abuse and sexual battery on him.

“I hurt that woman… And in the process of doing that, I hurt many other people and many other people before that woman. I was a pleasure-seeking, selfish, self-centered, dishonest, inconsiderate, fearful human being,” the actor stated.
