31-year-old English pop singer-songwriter spilled some tea during an interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
Charli XCX faces scrutiny regarding rumors of her writing songs for Britney Spears’s new album. It’s evident from the artist’s gestures that she hesitated to answer a fan’s question about it.
She answered yes and added, “Um, yes, but, it leaked to the press. Britney then, did this post where she was like ‘I don’t have random people write for me.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, OK. Go off,'” she added.
The post she was referring to was made by Britney Spears earlier this year on social media and it addressed rumors about her comeback to the music industry.
“Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash !!! They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album…I will never return to the music industry !!! When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!!” the “princess of pop” said on her post.
She continued, “For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me … I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years !!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!! People are also saying MY BOOK WAS RELEASED WITHOUT MY APPROVAL ILLEGALLY and that’s far from the truth … have you read the news these days ??? I’m so LOVED and blessed !!”
Charli XCX also mentioned that she had written for Britney Spears.
“Of course, yeah I went to Malibu and I wrote. You always write songs hoping Britney is gonna to record them because she’s the queen of pop.”
“She didn’t record it, so, she obviously didn’t. Random,” she added.
Users had differing thoughts on the hot pop tea, some siding with Charli, while some do not buy the statement and stand with Britney.
As of this writing, Britney Spears has not yet released any statement regarding Charli XCX’s revelation.
