That must have felt awkward at some point, right?
On February 10, 2024, BIG BANG’s Daesung made an appearance on a YouTube channel called “Psick University.” The comedy-centric YouTube channel is known for making their guests answer potentially sensitive questions.
During the show, the BIG BANG member was asked to list down the following artists—Teddy, Jinusean, BLACKPINK, and 2NE1, in YG Entertainment according to their contribution to the agency’s success. Daesung ultimately placed 2NE1 in last place, which prompted a follow-up question on who could be left out from the group.
To which he said, “It’s too harsh to pick a member who can be left out from the group,” and then named Minzy.
Viewers of the video weren’t pleased with what Daesung had said and with how the content was formed, with the comments sounding like, “They shouldn’t have done it if they couldn’t talk about BIG BANG,” “Why drag 2NE1? That’s so rude,” “Well, what’s the fun in featuring a person who had real controversies and does not have a good public image.”
6 days after, Dara guested in the SBS radio show, “Cultwo show,” where expressed her thoughts about her former labelmate’s comments. “I know it was just for entertainment, but I was upset at first.” She later on said, “But then I met Daesung at a salon. I couldn’t avoid him. But we made up as soon as we saw each other. A showbiz is a showbiz and in fact, BIG BANG and 2NE1 are like siblings.”
The show’s DJ asked Sandara on her thoughts as well on how much 2NE1 had contributed to YG Entertainment’s success, to which Dara said, “I believe I myself alone would have put the elevators in their building,” and confidently mentioned that she believes that 2NE1 had given at least one floor to YG Entertainment’s building.
