‘Lokalpedia’ founder and advocate seeks support for upcoming Mindanao expedition

Every person has a unique passion. But what if this passion is paired with advocacy? Well, two good things in one, that’s what Sherwin has done!

On January 28, Lokalpedia founder John Sherwin Felix shared a post on Facebook summarizing his travel experiences and soliciting support from supporters in order to carry on his mission.

Lokalpedia is an advocacy initiative that aims to catalog Philippine food items and ingredients. It is a passionate endeavor to honor and conserve our abundant culinary legacy and biodiversity.

Sherwin has been exploring the Philippines over the past three years, photographing local and exotic fruits, vegetables, edible plants, herbs, and foods made with these ingredients. With just a pen and camera, he publishes postings on social media to document his travels and discoveries.

And now that he’s almost at the conclusion of his journey, Sherwin has expressed his desire to seek support to fund his upcoming voyage to Mindanao.

“As I near the conclusion of this journey, I am reaching out for your support. My upcoming expedition to Mindanao marks the final chapter of this remarkable project, yet it requires additional resources to ensure its success. I am aiming to raise at least 50,000 pesos, which will help lessen my expenses and alleviate the financial burden of travel and documentation,” he wrote.

On this trip, the travel blogger and advocate aimed to highlight the unseen tales and unexplored treasures of Mindanao by visiting Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Basilan, Lanao, Maguindanao, and Misamis Oriental, to name a few.

Thus, the fundraising will assist Sherwin on his upcoming travel journey, which will allow him further to promote heritage preservation and cultivate a greater understanding of our country’s biological and cultural richness.

Following this last expedition, the advocate plans to take a well-earned break and concentrate on compiling a book and other areas of his life that he hopes to publish someday.

We can share Sherwin’s journey and help him raise funds as he continues his long-running advocacy on the Philippines’ rich tapestry.
