Soojin captures elegance in her solo debut mini-album, ‘AGASSY’

Soojin is finally back!

On November 8, 2023, Seo Soo-jin (known mononymously as Soojin) made her return to the Korean entertainment industry with her debut EP, “AGASSY,” with the title track of the same name.

This is her first release under her new agency, BRD Communications. Soojin had remained largely out of the public eye since the bullying allegations against her began in March 2021, her removal from (G)I-DLE, and her contract termination with CUBE Entertainment in 2022.

On June 30, 2023, Soojin opened her personal Instagram, much to the surprise and joy of her fans and (G)I-DLE’s fans, Neverland. From there, she continued to showcase bits and pieces about her everyday life and communicated with her fans.

Later in October 2023, Soojin was reported to have signed with her current agency, BRD Communications, and was revealed to have been preparing quietly for her solo comeback to the industry. Days later, a dance performance video titled “Black Forest” was released. On the next day, October 26, 2023, Soojin was announced to release her solo debut EP, “AGASSY” on November 8, 2023.

“AGASSY” features 6 tracks, including the title track of the same name. “Before, I have shown rather charismatic and strong sides of myself, but this time, I decided to reveal a different side of myself. I hope that my fans and audiences will be able to enjoy a completely different version of me. This EP is a whole new blend of my [qualities], both pure and enchanting, as well as charismatic and mysterious,” she said in a press release.

In an interview with the Korea JoongAng Daily, she revealed that the track she feels “most attached” to is “Sunset”—the fifth track in her album.

“This song beautifully captures the time spent with a loved one as the day fades, filled with pleasant daydreams of meeting that someone special,” said Soojin. She also said that the song had allowed her to “imagine the journey of meeting fans in a delightful way.”

Her title track, “Agassy” is described as a “charming song that gives the feeling of going back and forth from the past and present.” The song is characterized by traditional musical instruments and the music video featured numerous traditional Korean motifs.

Other than feeling emotional that Soojin had finally returned to fulfill her dreams as an idol, fans were elated to see Soojin in her natural element—an artist. Fans also thanked Soojin for coming back as an idol, when they were already content with seeing her posts on her personal Instagram.

Soojin had revealed in an interview as well that she had decided to come back as an idol when she thought of her fans.
