‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’ releases a sneak peak of the series dropping this November

The wait is almost over as Scott Pilgrim is returning as an anime series!

“Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” will have eight episodes and features characters who are returning to the franchise after starring in the 2010 film “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.” On September 27, the official clip for the series has been released.

The clip opens with Scott, voiced by Michael Cera, talking to Julie Powers (Aubrey Plaza), who is hoping to find a lead on Ramona Flowers. Despite her forbidding Scott to pursue Ramona, he immediately runs back to his roommate Wallace (Kieran Culkin) to order a package and make a setup to meet his dream girl. Ramona is an online streaming platform DVD delivery driver in the story which is different from the original source material.

Although the characters’ voices will be played by the original cast of the 2010 cult classic, executive producers of the series Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski emphasized that the anime adaptation is not just another remake of the original comics or the live-action movie.

They also noted that Edgar Wright’s film adaptation holds elements that they definitely took into consideration in making this series. Also served as an inspiration are the original eight volumes of the comics as the character designs are the same as they were first depicted on the page.

“Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” kept its original actors from the film to voice these characters. In the said clip, Lucas Lee was introduced, played by Chris Evans who is returning for the series. Brie Larson also reprises her role as Envy Adams, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers to name a few. With the amount of characters that exist in Scott Pilgrim, it’s impressive to see that a lot of the actors are reuniting for this project.

Seeing that the live-action movie introduced a few of their characters, this is an opportunity for the series to expand more on their backstories. The majority of the plot revolves around Ramona’s history with her seven evil exes, who go on to start Scott’s journey.

According to O’Malley, both the film and the comics were not able to fully flesh out the details of what their relationships with Ramona were like so those who would watch the show would learn more about each evil ex.

Fans of the franchise took to social media to show their excitement for the release of the series.
