Linus Tech Tips — a technology product review channel on YouTube with about 15 million subscribers — has recently been bogged with controversies regarding conflicts of interest, testing accuracy, sexual harassment, and other ethical concerns.
Canadian YouTuber Linus Sebastian, the Chief Vision Officer of Linus Media Group (LMG) and Linus Tech Tips (LTT) empire, including the whole team, are currently facing product testing issues after Gamer Nexus shared various remarks concerning their data accuracy.
On August 14, Gamers Nexus called out LTT’s hasty approach in reviewing tech products. According to the former, this approach can misinform consumers.
In the said video, Sebastian and his assistant assembled a PC using Billet Labs’ Monoblock prototype, yet mismatched GPU choices resulted in lackluster.
LTT team then responded to Gamer Nexus’s criticism by addressing key points to solve the issue. Yvonne Ho, the co-owner of LTT, said that they will be focusing on long-term workflow changes.
Meanwhile, allegations of sexual harassment and bullying from an ex-employee Madison Reeve have been added to the picture. The latter served as the team’s social media brand manager after her on-screen repartee in a 2019 clip. After her appearance with some LMG & LTT videos, Reeve announced that she left the group in 2021.
Reeve’s complaint against the company resurfaced following the Gamer Nexus’s issue with it. She posted her sentiment on (X) Twitter and explained that the team provided her with a toxic working environment and she had once cut her leg just to get a day off. She also mentioned that she was sexually abused at LTT and her mental health was compromised.
Linus and the team broke their silence regarding the sexual harassment accusations and tweeted a response.
“We are taking Madison’s allegations seriously. We are conducting an internal assessment alongside bringing in a third-party investigator to look into the allegations,” the statement reads.
As controversy swirls, Linus Tech Tips has paused all production to improve review processes and hire external investigators to examine harassment allegations.
