Cebu-based lechon restaurant chain Zubuchon will close all its branches and commissary in Metro Manila this August.
In a Facebook post by the restaurant, Zubuchon Southmall will be the first branch to close on August 13, followed by Zubuchon Centris on August 18, Zubuchon The Rise on August 25, and Zubuchon Megamall on August 28.
Their branches in Cebu will remain open as they continue to expand there.
Zubuchon shared that the decision to cease operations in Metro Manila was due to various reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the “extremely disruptive” ASF/Swine Flu pandemic, rising commodity prices, and other issues that made them “rethink our desire to invest in any further expansion in Manila.”
As such, they assured that “a majority of our Manila team have been placed in other good positions even before we post this announcement.”
Zubuchon, which was founded by Joel Binamira, takes pride in its signature Cebu lechon using sought-out local ingredients and backyard-raised pigs, without the use of MSG, food coloring, and chemical preservatives – being proclaimed by late American chef Anthony Bourdain as the “best pig ever.”
The restaurant opened its first branch in Metro Manila last 2017.
