Model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne says it has “been worth every second” to ditch the booze. In an interview with Elle UK, she revealed the changes that happened in her life since quitting alcohol, saying it has made her “stable” and calmer.”
Following Delevingne’s concerning paparazzi photos that recently circulated online, which snapped her back to reality, she checked herself into rehab for substance abuse issues. She realized that if she didn’t seek treatment, she “would either end up dead” or “doing something really, really stupid.” Admittedly, she shared that being under the influence made her feel “invincible” and her behavior “feral.”
“There have never been moments when I’m like, ‘This isn’t worth it. It’s been worth every second. I just don’t know what it would take for me to give it up. I am stable. I’m calmer,” she revealed.
She described herself as “resilient as hell” as she moves towards recovery that revolves around forms of art, like theater and music. She has a sponsor, in an Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step program, and participates in regular yoga sessions. “Feeding myself creatively is probably the best self-care I can do,” she added.
“For a long time, I felt like I was hiding a lot from people who looked up to me,” she said. Taking a break away from the public’s eye, she expressed her feelings of being “free and myself, fully.”
In an interview with Vogue earlier this year, she opened up about how addiction made a lot of people worry about her, saying that it was a “scary thing” especially to the people who love her.
She ended by saying that to change one’s life means to “sit in that uncomfortability. “But it gets better and it’s worth it.”
