How ‘Stranger Things’ would look like as an 80s anime

The hit series, “Stranger Things,” has become one of the most-watched series on Netflix since it was released in 2016. Crazy to think it has been seven years, huh? The combined elements of horror, suspense, adventure, and nostalgia are surely the reasons why people love the popular science fiction series. But speaking of nostalgia, the show’s homage to the 80s pop culture brings an even more special essence to the show.

The 1980s is an era that holds a special place in the hearts of many people that resonates with both older and younger audiences of the show. There are numerous references to 80s pop culture, music, movies, and games that bring either a sense of familiarity and nostalgia to those who grew up during that time, or fascination from younger generations. The nostalgic 80s aesthetic combined with the storytelling and performances from the cast made Stranger Things who it is today.

But one can never not mention “anime,” when talking about the 1980s. The decade marked a notable period of growth and influence for anime, allowing its popularity to extend up until today. Several iconic anime series became popular in Japan and the international scene in the 1980s, like “Dragon Ball,” and; “Saint Seiya,” to name a few.

With the fifth and final season of Stranger Things still in the works, many fans are left waiting and rewatching the show. Thankfully, the animation studio, Humouring the Fates, gave us something to enjoy for the time being. If you think Stranger Things cannot get any better, think again.

Humouring the Fates just released a parody fan film celebrating the show through showcasing, “its style and flipping it upside down.” If you are a fan of both anime and Stranger Things, or either of the two, then here is a treat for you.

The video game page, GameSpot, also made a side-by-side comparison of the series and the anime version!

As of this writing, we can expect Stranger Things 5 to arrive earliest sometime in the Spring or Summer of 2025.
