Disney star Skai Jackson faces backlash after asking fans to send $5 for a chance to win a laptop

Former Disney Channel actress Skai Jackson has been receiving backlash after asking fans to pay a $5 fee to enter a raffle for a chance to win an Apple Macbook laptop.

“It is not that serious, for a d*mn $5. It is called a raffle, I don’t know if you guys have been to school before but I know I’ve been to school and we used to have raffles all the time,” the 21-year-old said.

Jackson also stated that the “money goes toward the prize, and if there’s anything left over I’m doing a second giveaway soon. So that’s what it’s going toward.”

She further clarified that she does not need the money and it was solely for the purpose of the raffle, “I do not need money. Me, personally, I do not need money. And I’m not saying this like, in a bragging way or anything like that, or in a mean way. I’m just letting you guys know I do not personally need money. Like I am very fine in my life,” she said.

However, some people were not so forgiving of the actress’ decision to ask fans for money before holding a raffle:

Some questioned why the actress had a raffle in the first place:

Jackson rose to prominence for her role as Zuri Ross on Disney Channel’s 2011 show “Jessie” starring Debby Ryan, which ran for four seasons – she reprised the role in the 2015 spinoff “BUNK’D”, which ran for another three seasons.

She has been doing several voice-acting projects following the success of “Jessie” and recently starred in the movie “Sheroes” this 2023.
