DCU fans divided over David Corenswet replacing Henry Cavill in the role of Superman in first DCU film

David Corenswet, an actor known for his role as Jack Castello in the Ryan Murphy limited Netflix series Hollywood, has been tapped last June 27 to be the next Clark Kent in the upcoming DC Studios project Superman Legacy – a first for Gunn’s DC Cinematic Universe (DCU).

Corenswet will take over the role from Henry Cavill, who famously played the said role for films such as Man Of Steel (2013), Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Justice League (2017), and Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021).

Corenswet comes in as an expansion for the long line of Superman actors this year, alongside Jack Quaid from the animated series My Adventures with Superman and Nicolas Cage from 2023’s The Flash film.

When Quaid heard the June 27 casting announcement, he commended Corenswet as “one of the nicest people [he’s] ever worked with” and promised that the latter “will absolutely crush it.”

Corenswet then responded with a simple salute emoji.

Corenswet and Quaid got together on a previous project, both making an appearance on USA Network’s 2017 Yale University period drama The Tap. However, the episode was not aired.

Twitter users, on the other hand, seem to have differing opinions about this news. One user said that Corenswet is great for the role, bringing up the forte of the said actor on previous projects and adding that he looks like Henry Cavill’s young brother.

One highlighted Cavill and Corenswet’s resemblance, saying that it seems like they cast a junior version of Cavill. Meanwhile some congratulated Corenswet for the new role and then congratulated Cavill for his stint.

There are also some who are sad and wished that the current DC Studios should’ve just tapped Cavill again for the role.
