It seems like the Titanic submersible mishap did not escape the realm of fake news and memes.
One tweet that shows a lack of seriousness regarding the incident comes from a Twitter account called “Flopify,” with the handle @TheKing0f_Pop. The account impersonates “Pop Base,” one of the most famous pages featuring pop culture-related news.
The now-viral tweet claimed that the theme song of the 1997 Titanic film, “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion, received a staggering 7.8 million streams on Spotify and entered the Billboard Top 100 at the 12th spot following the submarine incident this week.
Twitter has debunked the tweet by adding a community note (the platform’s feature that allows Twitter users to collaborate and provide helpful context to tweets and keep other people better informed.) The note states that the song did not appear on Spotify and Billboard charts and provides links to legitimate sites, thereby further confirming that the tweet is a hoax. Additionally, there are no reports from legitimate news sources supporting these claims.
Although the news is not true, some people replied that they indeed streamed the song.
