‘Fast X’ Review: The newest film in this strong franchise tries to put more depth to its story

The road gets bumpy for the great Dominic Torreto (Vin Diesel) as Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa) is out to get his revenge in the action-packed film Fast X. This is the newest film in the franchise of Universal Pictures’ Fast and Furious. The film revolves around the story of Dominic and everything he does to protect his family from Dante’s vengeance.

It’s not a Fast and Furious film without exciting fights and car chase scenes–it is expected in the franchise, and in this regard that one can say that it does not disappoint. Previous films have showcased thrilling racing and car chase scenes. But in Fast X, things are more intense. The film takes people on a journey across different parts of the world, like Rome and Rio de Janeiro, where characters fight one another. Every action and car chase scene is well- executed, leaving people wanting to see more.

Fast X is definitely more than just an action film. True to its theme, it presents a great message about family. In the two hours or so that the movie runs, it is able to remind viewers what a family should be: a bond that goes beyond blood, like Dominic’s team or crew. “Without honor, you got no family. Without family, you got nothing.” Dominic’s character is that of a father who would do everything and whatever it takes to save his son. A great father—that is what Dominic tries to be to his son, Brian, or Little B (Leo Abelo Perry). Dominic’s belief that the younger generation will surpass the ones before them is a beautiful thought about the importance of trust and belief that parents give to their children.

Aside from the value of family, the film also humanizes the idea of revenge. This is where Dante’s character comes in. The film also follows Dante’s pursuit of vengeance against Dominic. All throughout the film, he does nothing but try to destroy Dominic’s family and hurt every person that he loves. Dante’s character provides a different thought about a family, that while it can be a source of strength, it can also be a weakness. For certain, many would find revenge unjustifiable, even with the story of Dante in the film. However, his backstory reflects the reality of what the death of a family member or loved one, like his father, can do. The character of Dante appears to be resentful and humorous, which makes his role a lot more interesting, but in a way, he adds depth to the message of the film.

For an action film, Fast X certainly brings a lot of things to the table. Its messages about family and vengeance are things that not many may appreciate, but would be great considerations for everyone. The ending of the film raises many questions and curiosities about what may happen in the next one. But, one thing seems certain, even though the road may get bumpier, Dominic will find a way to protect everyone he loves, just as he does whenever he encounters a seemingly impossible situation during a chase.

For those who plan to watch this film, stay for the post credits.
