Dubbed the “Oscars of the Food Community,” the James Beard Awards presented by the James Beard Foundation, is a momentous event for those in the know in the culinary arts, and being nominated is an honor.
Among this year’s nominees is French-Filipino content creator, Erwan Heussaff, who was nominated for the “Broadcast Media Award” under the “Social Media Account” category for his Instagram account, @erwan – and was nominated alongside international content creators Nom Life and Kalamatas Kitchen.
The award aims to “recognize excellence in a single food-related post, or compilation of up to three posts, that clearly represents the intention of the Facebook page, Twitter account, TikTok account, Instagram feed, or other social media format.”
Honoring excellence in food media for more than three decades, the award seeks to celebrate and inspire the communities of independent restaurants and food media industries while being committed to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability, and recognition of different cultures.
“Celebrating the art of storytelling and its ability to connect us to the power of good food is at the heart of the James Beard Media Awards. As we honor this year’s nominees, we recognize the profound impact that their stories have in educating, inspiring, and transforming our relationship to food, as well as each other,” said the CEO of the James Beard Foundation, Clare Reichenbach, in a press release.
“Congratulations to our 2023 nominees—for your phenomenal work opening a window to the people, cultures, communities, and history-shaping American food culture today,” she added.
Other Filipinos to be nominated for the awards are Archipelago’s Chef Aaron Verzosa for “Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific”, and ABACÁ’s Chef Vince Bugtong & République’s Chef Margarita Manzke both for “Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker.”
