Up-and-coming artists to check out and follow if you’re into Taylor Swift

Dear reader, if you’re reading this, well… you might find another guiding light.

Taylor Swift’s storytelling prowess is on a whole ‘nother level, that much is true. From country-pop, synth-pop, down to indie and alternative-rock, Taylor’s genre-bending genius has a song for just about every occasion and emotional state.

Because of her innate songwriting talent, many other artists have been influenced by her and are telling their stories in their own accord.  So, if you need songs to serve as soundtrack to a new page in your life, you might consider these up-and-coming artists that give the same T.S. vibes:

Gracie Abrams

artist Gracie Abrams

Blessed with a mellow voice that can do powerful storytelling, Gracie’s discography is essentially an emotionally-charged personal diary. Her first EP, Minor, talks about young love, friendships, and finding oneself, which eventually became the foundation of her second EP, This Is What It Feels Like, which tackled heavier topics like depression.

Gracie released her debut album, Good Riddance, early this year, documenting her emotional experience with “more precision and impact than ever before.” There’s just something about Gracie’s brutality in her songwriting that captivates you and makes you fully envision her story and make it your own.

Maisie Peters

Who knew songwriting could have a lot of sass? Maisie combines love letters with a little bit of shade, making her music straight out of a coming-of-age romantic comedy movie.

Maisie takes a stand with her own narrative in her debut album, You Signed Up For This, which is a reflection of everything she stands for. She is set to release her sophomore album, The Good With, on June 23rd. If you’re unapologetic for being you, maybe Maisie is for you.

beabadoobee

Admittedly, there are artists that we just want to gatekeep so only a handful (of us) could appreciate their music, but seriously, beabadoobee should be known to the world. Filipino-British singer Beatrice Ilejay Laus, or beabadoobee, is known for her indie-esque bedroom music that you would want to listen to on a sunny afternoon. It just doesn’t feel right to pick one song to represent her music, because her discography makes you feel like you’re right smack in the middle of her wonderland mind.

girl in red

If there is anyone that can prove to you that it’s okay to be highly connected with your emotions, it’s girl in red. The artist, real name Marie Ulven Ringheim, effectively shares her stories of heartbreak, mental illness, and queer experience. She is not only relatable, but she is also award-winning–her debut studio album, If I Could Make It Go Quiet, won ‘Album of the Year’ at the Norwegian Grammy Awards. This just proves that her music is of high quality.

Girl in red, beabadobee, and Gracie Abrams are set to open for Taylor Swift for her ‘The Eras Tour.’
