The X-Files starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as government agents solving otherworldly cases in search for the truth. The series originally aired from 1993 to 2002, featuring two movies, and returned for an 10th and 11th season which dropped in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
During an interview with “On The Coast with Gloria Macarenko” for the the 30th anniversary celebration of X-Files’ start of production, the original show-creator Chris Carter stated revealed that the writer-director Ryan Coogler is planning a reboot the American science fiction drama television series with a diverse cast. “I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So, he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory.”
He also shared the challenges in making the show today, stating people’s obsession with conspiracy theories. Thus, they need to shift the series’ focus. Coogler further added, “We’re so steeped in conspiracies now. The X-Files dealt with a central conspiracy, but now the world is so full of conspiracies that I think that it would be a different show.”
While the project is still in its early phase, there is no announcement on which network or platform it will air. However, it is more likely that it will not appear on the original network home of the “The X-Files'” series, given that Fox and 20th TV are no longer part of the same corporation, following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Coogler would be producing the project as part of his five-year overall arrangement with Walt Disney Television, which includes 20th TV.
Coogler is best recognized for his work on the two “Black Panther” films for Marvel, as well as the three “Creed” films opposite Michael B. Jordan. He also wrote and directed the critically-acclaimed film “Fruitvale Station,” in which he also co-starred with Jordan.
