Internet reacts to Issa Pressman and James Reid’s relationship ‘hard launch,’ three years after cheating issue

Hailey Bieber-Justin Bieber-Selena Gomez issue, but make it Pinoy.

Pinoy pop culture enthusiasts and chismosas on the internet were quite shaken with the events of last week: on March 16, 2023, social media personality Issa Pressman hard-launched her relationship with actor and Careless CEO James Reid in an Instagram post that showed the couple attending Harry Styles’ Love On Tour concert last March 14, 2023.

This surprising announcement didn’t sit quite well with fans of actress Nadine Lustre, who as everyone is very much aware of, is the ex-girlfriend of Reid. Back in 2020 when the “power couple” had broken up, rumors of Pressman being the alleged “third party” in the couple’s relationship had flared up. This was of course, denied back then.

However, with the announcement of Pressman and Reid’s relationship, well, of course it got all corners of the Philippine internet talking and well, naging ‘ungakatan ng past’ moment. People even started sharing their opinions about the whole thing, and well, it was looking all too similar to that whole Hailey-Justin-Selena fiasco.

On March 17, 2023, James Reid posted an Instagram story and Tweet addressing the whole thing. In it, he said that the rumors that were circulating in 2020 were baseless and were just rumors. He also said that he usually never addresses bashers or gets involved in hate culture, but felt the need to speak up because his relationship “is the start of something beautiful” and will not “let anyone take it away” from him. Reid also addressed his fans by saying that he is the happiest he’s ever been since the relationship.

Yassi Pressman, Issa’s older sister, also took to social media to address the thing, albeit indirectly. In her Tweet she said, “just don’t agree with people making fake conspiracies only to hurt other people,” and included the hashtag #thinkbeforeyouclick. Netizens didn’t take kindly to this and began replying to Pressman’s Tweet with different responses alluding to real friendship, as it is common knowledge that the Pressman sisters used to be part of Nadine’s circle of friends.

Even though the tea is scalding hot, let’s still take a step back and check on how we act about this situation. First, we’re not given all the facts, so we don’t know the actual sequence of events. Second, let’s give our president, Ms. Nadine Lustre some quiet—she’s also been quite happy with her current life and friends, and we shouldn’t just be bringing back the past just like that. A little respect to her and her current boyfriend, no?

And third, even if there is some truth in the whole thing, let’s all try to control our pagiging chismosa. Sometimes, it isn’t really good to be so nosy in the lives of others, even though they are known public figures. They’re still humans that deserve some privacy.

But yeah, when it comes to dating, hello? A little delicadeza nga naman. Char.
