Tina Fey pens the movie version of ‘Mean Girls the Musical,’ official filming begins

Get in, losers!  We’re about to get another “Mean Girls” production!

Mean Girls is one of the most iconic Y2k films and has remained relevant up until today. Without a doubt, it has made a huge impact in the comedy genre, making household names out of its ensemble cast.

Tina Fey once again pens the movie version of ‘Mean Girls the Musical,’ which has officially begun filming.

“We’re starting production on Mean Girls Musical,” the official page of Mean Girls film confirmed through a post on March 7.

Fey wrote Mean Girls back in 2004 and brought it to the Broadway stage in 2018 with Mean Girls The Musical, which was nominated for several Tony Awards such as Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Choreography. The film’s official Instagram and Twitter pages confirmed the upcoming musical movie had started production.

For the plot of the movie, it would be pretty much like the original and the musical on which it was based. It follows Africa-born Cady Heron as she navigates a chaotic jungle named North Shore High School and struggles to fit in with the different types of cliques.

The movie musical would bring in new and familiar faces with Renee Rapp, who was in the Broadway production, reprising her role as Regina, Tim Meadows as Principal Duval, and Fey as Ms. Norbury. Avantika will play Karen; Bebe Wood will play Gretchen; Angourie Rice plays Cady; as well as Auli’l Cravalho as Janis; Jaquel Spivey as Damian; and Christopher Briney will play Aaron Samuels. Jenna Fischer is also joining the cast and will star as Cady’s mom, while actress Busy Philipps will play “cool mom” Mrs. George.

The fans are very excited for the upcoming film, especially that they’ll be seeing Karen learning about the rules of feminism, Gretchen trying to make fetch happen, and Regina George victimizing everyone anytime she wants to. All of these we have to wait for until the premiere of the movie. The Mean Girls Musical does not have a set release date yet, so I guess we will just have to wait for the announcement.
