Kehlani reveals ‘Am I A Lesbian?’ Google doc helped them realize they’re lesbian

Over the past years, global music superstar Kehlani has always been open about embracing their sexuality.

In 2018, the “Honey” hitmaker revealed in a series of now-deleted tweets that they identified as queer, writing: “‘Cuz I keep [getting] asked… I’m queer. Not bi, not straight. I’m really attracted to women, men, REALLY attracted to queer men, nonbinary people, intersex people, trans people.”

At the time, Kehlani also mentioned that they were pansexual and polyamorous.

Three years later, the Grammy-nominated artist came out as a lesbian through an Instagram live. “Wanna know what’s new about me? I finally know I’m a lesbian,” they said.

Since then, Kehlani got candid about their journey to coming to terms with their sexuality, and more recently, they went into greater detail about how they realized they are lesbian.

In a recent interview with the controversial social media star Logan Paul and his co-host Mike Majlak on IMPAULSIVE, Kehlani shared that they first thought they were “broken” for not feeling any connection with men prior to coming out as a lesbian.

“The ability to dissociate in a relationship and during sex and with connection, I thought maybe I had been through too much, or I wasn’t meeting the right people, I kept trying,” they said. They added that no matter how they idealized the connections they made with men, they still felt that something was amiss.

“It was beyond the heartbreaks that were happening. It was beyond being cheated on,” they shared. “I’d get cheated on and the relationship would be over and I’d be like, ‘Damn, three months ago, I was already like what is happening? Why don’t I want to have sex? Why I don’t feel that deeply?’”

Kehlani then revealed that when their therapist asked how they felt about women, the singer answered: “If a girl looks at me, I’m gonna melt into a puddle.” Then a lightbulb moment happened when their therapist asked if they ever thought they were “maybe just gay.”

The singer then explained that aside from their appointment, their therapist also sent a Google doc titled, “Am I A Lesbian?” which has immensely helped them discover their gay awakening.

“Am I A Lesbian?” is a 31-page document published in the mid-2010s and made famous by Lesbian Masterdoc, which gained controversy at the time. The Google doc explores compulsory heterosexuality, which refers to the assumption that the only normal relationship is between a man and a woman, and other related concepts.

“I read the f*ck out of this Google doc and was like, when I had to list and analyze why I was still dating men, none of it had to do with being in love,” Kehlani shared. “None of it had to do with those feelings that I’m supposed to feel: love, care, and deep emotion.”

“[When] I came out, my relationships and my ability to feel deeply for anybody I’m romantic with, I was like, ‘Oh, I’ve been missing this my whole life,’” they added.

The “Gangsta” singer went on to say that when they began accepting themselves and embracing their sexuality, “it was like these floodgates opened.” “I feel like I experience emotions deeper across the board now,” they said.

According to media reports, Kehlani is currently dating basketball player Kiara Russel, with the pair debuting their relationship in a now-deleted TikTok video which saw the two showing their affection to each other through smooches.
