AI generated art is problematic and should never be supported by anyone

If you’ve been on the internet and on social media for quite some time now, we’re sure that you’ve caught wind of this controversy concerning AI artworks and artists.

Well, to sum it up real quickly, it’s just this: artists have been rallying and condemning AI artists and their so-called “artworks” for the following reasons: One, it’s belittling their line of work. Two, it’s discrediting all the works they’ve done by hand. Three, the one making the “art” isn’t even human. Four, did we mention that it’s stealing? And five, it’s plagiarism.

What would you feel if your work has been copied and stolen? How about if others took full credit for something you had conceptualized for weeks and months?

Wouldn’t you feel mad, or angry, or disappointed, or everything in between?

Yeah, that’s just how every single artist whose had their works run under an AI generator feels like. If anything, almost everyone on the Internet finds AI art as a disgrace, a disappointment, and a blatant disrespect to the artists who have been working nonstop just to form and develop their craft.

Artists have even begun a protest against AI art. It’s that serious. Some have even included the hashtag “#HumanArtists” to their posts because that is what art is—alive and human.

Art, according to the dictionary, is the expression of human creative skill and imagination—something that AI art fails to have. Yes, AI art may be operated by humans, but it doesn’t mean that humans are actually behind the creative process and the end product of it.

There’s one thing that’s missing in AI art, and it’s the human aspect of it. In those so-called artworks, we see beauty yes, but it somehow feels hollow. When we look at artworks done by human artists, we see a breath of life, a part of their lives that they choose to represent by their creativity.

And the fact that “AI artists” are stealing and discrediting works of real artists is offensive. It diminishes the lives these artists have led, just for the creation and capitalization of art. That, among other things, is what makes AI art problematic.

Don’t support it.
