Elon Musk’s plan for Twitter verification has everyone trolling the new policy

Let’s admit it: Twitter has been very chaotic lately.

No, we’re not talking about the usual fandom fights to happen on stan Twitter, nor the announcement of Taylor Swift’s “The Era Tour.” It has something to do with a certain billionaire named Elon Musk who now owns the blue bird app and his future plans for the platform.

In case you didn’t know what’s happening on Twitter, let us briefly sum it up for you:

After months of going back and forth to purchase the social media platform, the Tesla CEO has finally bought Twitter, according to media reports on October 28. As soon as Musk sat as Twitter’s new czar, he didn’t waste time making changes to the company, which includes removing the company’s three executives, and adding and renaming certain features of the platform.

Perhaps, the latest change he’s been eyeing is to charge verified users $8 (roughly P470.60) per month for them to keep their blue check mark, as well as flagging parody sites that don’t declare themselves as so, among other things.

According to Musk, this new system will also come with perks, such as being a priority in replies, mentions, and searches, and posting long videos and audio.

With Musk announcing his vision for the platform, people on Twitter are now poking fun at the new owner over his blue badge subscription policy.

Apart from this blue badge subscription system Musk is eyeing, another paid feature is also in the works. According to The Washington Post, the company is working on a “high-risk paid video feature,” which would charge people to view content, including adult content, with the company “taking a cut of the proceeds.”

After hearing of this, Twitter users simply balked at all these paid features Musk is planning.  Many took to the blue bird app to express their bewilderment, while others compared the platform to OnlyFans, a subscription service that hosts much content, ranging from gaming and music to adult content.
