Call off the call for help from the Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans, and all the superheroes you know because Cartoon Network just confirmed that they’re not going anywhere.
In case you missed it: the beloved television channel has been the talk of the town recently as news of Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. Animation’s merger hit the Internet. But what left the fans distraught was the announcement that their parent company Warner Bros. Television Group (WBTVG) had laid off 82 scripted, unscripted, and animation staffers.
In a memo to employees that was reported by Variety, WBTVG chair Channing Dungey wrote that the animation department is set to implement a “new streamlined structure.” While there are still no mentions of channel cancellations, this change—alongside the merger—has caused several Cartoon Network fans to worry about the channel’s uncertain future.
As soon as the news broke out, a huge chunk of the online population gathered around on Twitter to pay tribute to the channel, and over the weekend, the phrase “RIP Cartoon Network” even trended.
