The new Bleach trailer presents protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki battling it out with the Hollows in Karakura Town however things take a turn for the worse as they encounter a new threat as the Quincy return with a much stronger force lead by a mysterious cloaked man.

The anime will be based on the “Thousand-Year Blood War” arc of Tite Kubo’s manga. It was announced that it will be running in four split cours and could possibly be around 50 episodes all-in-all. Reportedly, it will have breaks in between however details on how the schedule will work out have yet to be revealed.

A “cour” of episodes is typically 12 – 13 episodes per batch that runs through a seasonal schedule of anime. Bleach will run its episode count through the fall and will have three more batches in future seasons.

Tite Kubo talked about his involvement in the animation in an interview last July as well as shared the things he felt most excited about. He also said that he gave many suggestions for the battles and color designs and that fans can expect that Studio Pierrot will remain faithful to its animation style of the original adaptation.

Viz Media will be holding the North American premiere at New York Comic Con on October 8 and noted that it will be ahead of a “simulcast” of the anime.

The anime will cover the rest of the original manga up through its ending.
