Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of suicide and self-harm that may be disturbing for some readers.
Korean singer and songwriter BIBI, known for her fierce and badass performer image, sparked concern among fans when she shared her exhausting situation via Instagram Live last night. More than the deprivation of physical and emotional rest, what alarmed the fans most was her mentioning of suicidal thoughts.
At the beginning of the Instagram Live, BIBI immediately expressed how uncomfortable she was with her situation. The singer revealed that she can’t even wash off her makeup because, according to her, she still has scheduled work coming up on that day. She then mentioned how badly she wanted to rest as she had been sleep-deprived for the past few days.
After explaining her overtaxing schedule of waking up at 9, working continuously afterward, and still having another schedule at 10 in the evening, the singer brought up the thing that made the fans hyperalert. She mentioned killing herself and continued letting out her depressing concerns.
It was obvious that the singer tried to maintain calm and collected as she spoke to her fans, but the negative emotions came out uncontrollably later. “Why I can’t do my interview in TV show without make-up, I’m just so exhausted,” she said.
The singer then hopelessly talked about how badly she wanted to eat, sleep, and have a good rest. “But I can’t,” she said and started crying. She then talked about how she could not have the basic needs she had just mentioned without working hard. “There is no choice,” she described it, as there were families depending on her. BIBI then ended the stream, helplessly saying that she wished she was not an artist or a singer.
After the said live, the fans immediately took to social media to express their worry about the singer’s situation, tweeting with the hashtag #BIBIDESERVESBETTER, which started trending on Twitter. The fans also called the attention of BIBI’s company, Feel Ghood Music, to immediately act on the singer’s unacceptable state. According to them, although mentioned only briefly, the singer’s mentioning of a suicidal attempt was extremely alarming.
There is still no statement coming from the Feel Ghood Music as of writing. Meanwhile, BIBI’s fans continue to bring up the concern in hopes of immediately hearing a positive response from the singer’s record label.
Update:
BIBI has posted this on her Instagram account today, July 22, 2022, at around noon, PST, seemingly in response to her name trending online. The post, which is in third person view, is calling for people to stop blaming (presumably her record label).
