Bonnie Aarons to return as Valak in ‘The Nun 2’

Prepare to protect yourself as demonic nun Valak returns to haunt the silver screen.

During the 2022 CinemaCon, Warner Bros. announced that The Nun 2 is in development as the next installment of the studio’s The Conjuring Universe franchise.

Shortly after, The Conjuring producer James Wan officially confirmed that Valak will return in The Nun 2, with Bonnie Aarons reprising her role as the demonic nun.

Taking to Instagram, Wan welcomed back Aarons by sharing some behind-the-scenes photos with the caption that reads: “NUN 2 – moving into production.”

Apart from Aarons, Wan also announced that Michael Chaves will be sitting in the director chair for The Nun 2. Chaves previously directed two films from The Conjuring universe, The Curse of La Llorona (2019) and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021). Screenwriter Akela Cooper is also expected to pen The Nun 2’s script, while Wan will produce the film together with Peter Safran.

Aaron’s character Valak was first introduced in the 2016 film, The Conjuring 2. The demonic nun then appeared in Corin Hardy’s 2018 film, The Nun, the oldest film in The Conjuring universe’s timeline. The Nun, which is set in Romania in 1952, tells the story of a priest and a nun uncovering an unholy secret, where their faith is tested as they confront a malevolent force in the form of a demonic nun, Valak.

The Nun 2 is the ninth film in The Conjuring franchise and will follow the events four years after The Nun, where the sequel will be set in France in 1956. The film’s synopsis reads: “1956 – France. A priest is murdered. Evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit The Nun follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force Valak – the demon nun.”

As of writing, news about The Nun 2’s release date and cast members are yet to be announced.
