‘Spirited Away’ live-action stage play to stream online this summer

Heads up, Studio Ghibli fans! You don’t need to book a flight to Japan anymore as the live-action stage play of Spirited Away will be available to stream online this summer.

The Studio Ghibli masterpiece Spirited Away recently premiered its live-action stageplay adaptation at the Imperial Theater in Tokyo, Japan. The play’s full performances and production featured impressive design, costume, and hairstyling, to live up to the crucial elements of the animation film, and recreate the key highlight locations of the film.

As the play’s Tokyo theatrical run has come to an end, fans are looking forward as the production is now heading to more cities. The production is currently headed to Osaka for a 12-day run starting mid-April, and to follow more performances in Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Nagoya. But it seems like the Spirited Away stage production also added a special location, which is online!

Studio Ghibli fans all over the world don’t have to worry anymore about not being able to travel to Japan, as you can watch the live-action stageplay of Spirited Away in your own rooms!

It was recently announced that this summer, Hulu Japan will be live streaming the final theatrical days of the play’s Japanese tour. Hulu will be streaming two performances, on the two final days of the tour, July 3 and 4, at the Misonoza Theater in Nagoya, Japan.

It is important to note that the Spirited Away live-action stage play uses a double cast system in the Japanese Theater, wherein the role of the single character is shared by two actors who will be appearing in alternate performances.

 

The July 3 performers will be:

Kanna Hashimoto as Chihiro
Kotaro Daigo as Haku
Koharu Sugawara as No Face
Miyu Sakihi as Lin/Chihiro’s Mother
Tomorowo Taguchi as Kamaji
Mari Natsuki as Yubaba/Zenibaba

While the July 4 performers will be:

Mone Kamishiraishi as Chihiro
Hiroki Miura as Haku
Tomohiko Tsujimoto as No Face
Fu Hinami as Lin/Chihiro’s Mother
Satoshi Hashimoto as Kamaji
Romi Park as Yubaba/Zenibaba
