Is Taron Egerton playing the Wolverine in the MCU?

There have been rumors that the Kingsman and Rocketman star Taron Egerton would be playing the Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the past few years. In an interview at The One Show, Egerton addresses the said rumors.

The One Show host Alex Jones questioned Egerton on whether or not we’d see him in the MCU as one of the most famous and beloved X-Men characters — the Wolverine. He has this to say about the rumors:

“There’s no truth in it at all. There’s no truth in it. It would be, obviously, really exciting, but I don’t know.” – Taron Egerton

When Jones asked Egerton if he’d prefer to play the clawed character, he responded, “That’s like playing Bond… It would be exciting to play a role where you play to by such a huge audience. Those movies are the most-watched movies in the world.” He then quickly denies the rumors, “It’s a great thrill and it’s a great part. But there’s no truth in it. Very flattering, though.”

This isn’t the first time Egerton has had to deny rumors about him playing Wolverine. In fact, he had to talk about the speculation three separate times. In July 2019, he mentioned on Heart Breakfast that there might be “better candidates” than him.

Then in October of the same year, he said to Comic-Con Chicago that he felt “baffled” by the rumors, saying that he “never felt like a Wolverine sort of guy.”

Lastly, in September 2020, he confessed to GQ that he found “no grounding for those rumors.”

There have been many rumors for the upcoming MCU blockbuster Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. People have been speculating that Patrick Stewart may come back as Professor X, as well as fellow X-man Magneto. There’s been rumors that Tobey Maguire would come back as his own version of Spider-Man once again. However, one huge rumor that people seem to be talking about is that Wolverine would make an appearance in this movie — but Hugh Jackman probably won’t be acting in it. We’ve seen instances where actors have to constantly lie about their casting (e.g., Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man in No Way Home), so is it possible that we will see Taron Egerton portray Wolverine, especially since he’s denied rumors so many times? Only time can tell.
