Brillante Mendoza bags ‘Best Director’ in the 54th Gijon Int’l Film Festival

Internationally-acclaimed director Brillante Mendoza garnered praises once again after winning the award for Best Director during the recently concluded 54th Gijon International Film Festival in Spain for his film, “Ma’Rosa.”

Just earlier this year, Jaclyn Jose, lead actress of Ma’Rosa, won the Best Actress award in the Cannes Film Festival. The latest accolade is the second award that came from the film, and Mendoza expressed his appreciation on his social media account:

“Ma’Rosa” is also the country’s official entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 89th Academy Awards. The film revolves around a mother who runs a convenience store and, to make both ends meet, sell drugs on the side with her husband. You can check out the film’s trailer below:
