THE UP MATH-PHYSICS SOCIETY proudly presents this year’s National Math-Physics Photo-Essay Contest with the theme “Improving the Filipino Community through Mathematics and Physics”. The photo-contest does not merely feature beautiful photographs but entries that strike an impact of national relevance.

We are inviting everyone, AMATEUR AND PROFESSIONAL photographers to share us your perceived present conditions of Mathematics and Physics (challenges AND OR victories), your dreams and visions for these fields in the Philippines and how it can help us grow as a nation.

Physics has always played a central role in technological evolution and economic improvements. In terms of Research and Development (R&Ds), the Philippines known for innovative technologies worldwide. Just recently, Philippines has launched its very own satellite, a microsatellite, the DIWATA in outer space! We are beginning to soar high and be globally competent.

Mathematics has many real-life applications that seems to be unknown to most of the masses: mathematical modeling of a disease (Health), use of topology in architecture and computer programmes for national security operations, statistics, finance, Actuarial Science (i.e. life and non-life insurances, etc.), and Population Dynamics (Social Sciences).

So you see, there is evident and immediate need for everyone to realize that the fields of Mathematics and Physics are not merely difficult fields, but rather, they are beautiful and necessary fields.  Mathematics and Physics are key components to developing the Philippine economy and advancing the Filipino society! And we want you photographers to be the instrument of showcasing this!
