Whether you’ll be spending this Valentine’s Day alone (yet again) or celebrating it with a special someone, it’s a day which everyone should be able to enjoy. Let’s feel that love in the air, even under this climate.
In a relationship or not, consider this day as one of those moments wherein feeling lonely is not allowed.
In fact, after a long exhausting period either at work or school, you should end it by watching or re-watching some of these rom-com films, which will forever be timeless and could make your Valentine’s Day more bearable than the last one.
The Proposal (2009)
It’s safe to say that most of us love watching two characters who obstinately despise each other slowly form a bond that makes you want to curl your toes from excitement. A good ‘enemies to lovers’ trope will never get old.
The Proposal centers on Margaret Tate, an executive editor-in-chief in a publishing company who’s on the verge of being deported back to Canada, her home country. Her logical solution to this problem was to ask her assistant, Andrew, to marry her – which he rejects.
To Margaret’s surprise, Andrew proposes a condition that he will only agree to marry her if she promotes him as an editor, which she agrees to.
Well, we all know what happens to fake marriages, right?
Ella Enchanted (2004)
Fairies, elves, giants – and of course – a prince are what make up a fairytale. Ella Enchanted has all of these.
The story revolves around Ella, who was given the gift of obedience by her fairy godmother. It wasn’t really beneficial to her because some people could ruthlessly take the gift for granted and use it to their advantage.
While Ella grew up with her father alone after her mother died, she gets married to a rich socialite who treats her like an outcast.
Suddenly, Ella’s two stepsisters find out about her gift, enticing her to do acts that are against her own will. Because of this, she takes on the decision to find her fairy godmother to undo the gift she cast upon her.
On her journey, she meets Prince Char. From then on, everything goes well and is just a little too complicated than ever.
Ella Enchanted will leave you feeling satisfied once the film ends. It’ll take you on a trip down fantasy lane with a touch of comedy that will surely make your Valentine’s Day better.
Love Actually (2003)
What’s not to love about a good holiday film? Although Love Actually is set on Christmas, you can still watch it during any occasion, Valentine’s Day included.
It is a film that centers on the lives of different characters which are all somewhat connected to one another. Each of them encounters different situations ranging from grief to reverting to their most gleeful state.
Love Actually will show you how love and loss make us up to be more human than we already are. It will have you laughing, crying, and falling in love at the same time. Just like a rollercoaster ride.
About Time (2013)
Time travel movies could be a bit complex for some of us to comprehend. About Time won’t require you to do some mental gymnastics because it is a film that everyone can watch.
The film is about Tim, a man who discovers from his father that the men from their family could time travel to the past. As someone who longs to find a woman to love, Tim uses his time-traveling gift for petty things such as making things right to make the girl he likes return his feelings.
He meets Mary and promises himself that he’s going to do everything to have her, even if it means doing all the time-traveling that he needs.
About Time needs to be on everyone’s Valentine’s Day watchlist, for it is a film that is timeless and will never get old no matter how many times you’ve seen it.
