Minnie Mouse’s new pantsuit outfit gets mixed reactions on social media

It looks like it’s a “new year, new look” for Minnie Mouse because she’s traded her signature red-and-white polka dot dress for a chic pantsuit. Aside from trying out a new style, Minnie is also trying out a new color scheme for her wardrobe – the new pantsuit is navy blue, very different from her signature red-and-white color palette.

British fashion designer Stella McCartney says Minnie Mouse’s new attire–navy blue and black polka dot pantsuit–was inspired by one of her iconic designs–a blue tuxedo that uses responsibly sourced fabrics.

Disneyland Paris released the drawing of the character’s new outfit in honor of the theme park’s 30th anniversary in March. Minnie will also be donning the pantsuit in honor of International Women’s Day. “This new take on her signature polka dots makes Minnie Mouse a symbol of progress and empowerment for a new generation,” McCartney said.

McCartney, daughter of The Beatles member Paul McCartney, was chosen for the collaboration because of her “legacy of female leadership”. However, while many are hyped and excited to see Minnie’s new look, some did not seem too happy about the new design.

People on social media showed mixed reactions to the design, and the new look has immediately been politicized. Conservative right-wing Political activist Candice Owens reacted to Fox news about the styled outfit saying that it is “trying to destroy fabrics of our society”.

Owens explained that changing Minnie’s outfit wasn’t necessary and that there are more important matters to tackle. “They’re taking all of these things that nobody was offended by, and feel like they have to get rid of them and destroy them because they’re bored. They’re trying to destroy the fabrics of our society, pretending that there are issues so everybody looks over here. ‘Look at Minnie Mouse, don’t look at inflation…’ The world was going forward because we got her in a pantsuit.”

However, fans pointed out that Minnie has had plenty of costume changes throughout her history. They also mentioned that Minnie had also worn pants in a sailor suit when Disney Cruise announced Minnie was taking the helm as a captain in 2019.

People were quick to convey their sentiments on Minnie’s pantsuit, which gave varying responses. Some expressed their dislike of the pantsuit claiming that it’s not “Minnie-like” and that it’s too “woke”.

However, others still loved the new style.
