This week on “things that shouldn’t have gone viral, but sadly have”: a girl on TikTok posted a video of a guy without his consent and asked the short-form video platform to “do its thing”. The thing, meaning, to scour the entire internet for the guy’s identity.
Jeez. How low can we all go just to find that one person we can call “the one”?
To add more cringe to the already embarrassing move, Jessica Soho, a renowned Filipino journalist behind the beloved show “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho”, decided to cover the story. She posted the trailer of the episode on her social media account with the caption, “Da who ang Guy Behind the Black Face Mask?”
This caught the eye of Filipinos online, and immediately shared their reactions on the viral TikTok video and the trailer of the KMJS episode on social media. While some were congratulating the girlie for reaching the broadcast show with her “cute” story, some were calling out the creepy and weird behavior of it.

This is so wrong on so many levels. KMJS STOP NORMALIZING CREEP BEHAVIOR. Hindi na to cute. Maganda o panget man yung naghahanap ng stranger, WASTE OF ENERGY ITO plus maling ipromote yung ganitong behavior 🤢 What a shame, @KM_Jessica_Soho

Tell me you're desperate on getting a boyfriend without telling me you're desperate on getting a boyfriend

To tell you quite frankly, no, this wasn’t a “Wattpad story” level of cute—this was weird. Heck, this would even be a breach of my privacy if this ever happened. Would you ever want your face broadcasted on national TV just because some person wanted to see you again? Or because they wanted to get to know you more after just accidentally bumping into them?
Of course not — we’re not living in an “Archive of Our Own” plotline.
Also, some people did point out something very important to note. Since the person who went viral for the video was a girl, she got favorable comments about how she’s trying to shoot her shot. If we switch the situation — with the one going viral being a guy, obviously the internet is going to hypothetically rip him into pieces because of the creepy behavior behind the video.
We should all stop trying to normalize these things, because if you were in that guy’s position, you probably wouldn’t know what to do if you saw your half-hidden face broadcasted on television.
What if that guy didn’t want to be found on TikTok? What if he was already in a relationship, or already had a family? What if he couldn’t be found on any kind of social media platform, wouldn’t girlie be embarrassed because she posted it and TikTok didn’t do its thing?
This type of behavior isn’t cute, stop trying to make it look like the typical Filipino rom-com kilig story. It’s weird and it makes you look desperate — not a good look to go for to be honest. Stop thinking that you’re in a Wattpad storyline. If you think this was cute, then you better touch some grass.
