In an unexpected turn of events, the Greek Goddess of Victory is angry at being associated with Satan.
Last Monday, athletic shoe company Nike sued MSCHF Product Studio Inc. for trademark infringement over their custom line of “Satan Shoes.”
The shoe line was made to promote Lil Nas X’s latest music video for his single ‘Montero (Call Me By My Name)’. A fitting number of 666 copies of the shoes were made and sold out in the same hour of release.
The Satan Shoes are a modified Nike Air Max 97s with a pentagram pendant, a drop of human blood in the sole, and “Luke 10:18” written on the midsole – a reference to Lucifer’s fall from heaven as well as to the events in the music video.
In Nike’s complaint, they requested MSCHF to permanently stop production of the shoe line, citing social media users have threatened to boycott Nike over the unauthorized Lil Nas X Satan Shoes.
Nike stated that the product has caused confusion among its consumers. “Nike has suffered significant harm to its goodwill, including among consumers who believe that Nike is endorsing satanism,” the company stated in the complaint.
Fortunately for Lil Nas X, he was not stated as a party in the lawsuit.
