On November 9, actor and singer Choi Jin Hyuk held his first Manila concert for his fans at the New Frontier Theater.
He kicked off his highly anticipated show with an acoustic performance of “Best Wishes to You,” the iconic song from the Gu Family Book OST, a Korean drama he starred in back in 2013.
For his second song, he serenaded the audience with “I Miss You” by Kim Bum-soo, a heartfelt performance he had also shared earlier during his appearance on the afternoon entertainment show It’s Showtime.
When asked about his song choices for the fancon, Choi Jin Hyuk explained that they were popular hits across Asia. He specifically selected “I Miss You” because he was feeling nostalgic for Manila.
He shared that he had previously visited Clark, Pampanga to play golf. When asked by the host whether he comes to the Philippines for golf or the fans, Jin Hyuk responded, “Of course, it’s the fans.”
The actor revealed that he is currently preparing for a musical in Korea titled “Blood and Love,” something his fans can look forward to.
During one of the fancon segments, Choi Jin Hyuk shared that he felt his most recent Korean drama, Miss Night and Day, would be a success even before the shoot. He credited the show’s potential to its talented cast and world-class director.
For Choi Jin Hyuk, the comedy aspects of Miss Night and Day enhanced the show and contributed to its international recognition. He also shared that, for him to take on a role, the script has to be personally enjoyable.
After watching some clips from “Miss Night and Day,” Choi Jin Hyuk was surprised by the scenes his fans enjoyed. He admitted that he felt the scenes were quite childish when filming them, but was happy to see fans appreciate them, especially a scene where his character gets hit with raw eggs.
In the second segment of the show, titled “Don’t Give Up Choi Jin Hyuk,” he was given three missions, which he completed successfully—though with a bit of fear, as the punishment for failure was either eating balut or doing the APT dance challenge.
For the prize, a lucky fan was invited on stage during the next segment, “A Date with Choi Jin Hyuk.” After watching and recalling some of the most memorable “kilig” moments with actress Jung Eun-ji, the fan got the chance to reenact one of the iconic scenes from Miss Night and Day.
To the delight of his fans, Choi Jin Hyuk performed “Standing Next to You” by BTS Jungkook, sending the audience into a frenzy of joyful screams. He also treated them to a rendition of “Time of Our Life” by Day6.
In the final segment of the fancon, 20 lucky fans were selected for the “Lucky Draw Game” and were given an envelope containing either a signed selfie photo from Choi Jin Hyuk or a 3-second hug from the actor himself.
For his fifth song, Choi Jin Hyuk performed the iconic The Heirs OST, “I’m Saying” by Lee Hong Ki. This was followed by a heartfelt surprise video created by his fans, which deeply moved him.
He also performed “Sudden Shower” by ECLIPSE as his sixth song, the OST from the K-drama The Lovely Runner.
As a special gift to his fans, Choi Jin Hyuk performed an unreleased original song titled “I Want to Run and Hug You,” exclusively created for the fancon. The heartfelt performance took place amidst a sea of stars, with his Filipino fans lighting up their flashlights in support.
“Thank you so much and if there is an opportunity I will come back,” Choi Jin Hyuk expressed as the fancon came to a close.
The fans were then invited to line up for a hi-touch session, where each fan had the opportunity to greet Choi Jin Hyuk and shake his hand.
