Last August 23, Route 196 announced its permanent closure.
With patrons and artists alike left saddened by this announcement, the beloved music hub wished to hold a proper send-off, to give a chance for everyone to say goodbye from the safety of their homes. Recently, Route 196 streamed their final gig on their Facebook page for free with a lineup of acts such as The Itchyworms, Sponge Cola, Lola Amour, Reese Lansangan, Clara Benin, and Ebe Dancel.
The 8-hour livestream served as a fundraiser with the proceeds going towards supporting the bar’s staff as the pandemic has left them unemployed. “Some of the best people you’ll meet in life are the Route 196 staff. They’ve always served us and partied with us with a smile.”
As many considered the gig venue to be their second home, it was bittersweet watching the bands you were so accustomed to watching on stage through a screen.
The sheer visual of @shesonlysixteen doing a set in an empty @route196rocks is jarring, but it’s so nice to be able to see this one last time 🥺🥺🥺#ThankYouRoute196 pic.twitter.com/2R51hs4zUd

Route 196 took its final bow with a sentimental compilation video accompanied by the touching lyrics of Nakauwi Na by Ang Bandang Shirley.
🎶 Kahit walang katapusan, hindi ka iiwan
Basta’t makasama ka ako’y nakauwi na 🎶— Route 196 (@route196rocks) September 12, 2020
While this may be goodbye, the memories and friendships made will always remain. We can look back and say, “All roads lead to Route.”
