Social media influencers apologize for partying during the pandemic

Partying with friends while the whole world is on quarantine and practicing social distancing is a really bad idea, obviously. So it’s no surprise that several social media influencers were highly criticized after they recently attended a birthday bash at the Hype House in LA.

Different video clips from the party show a jampacked event with people disregarding any sense of safety and hygiene protocols, which of course led to a massive backlash online. Among those who attended the party of social media influencer Larray were James Charles, Tana Mongeau, Nikita Dragun, and sisters Charlie and Dixie D’Amelio.

Fellow social media star Tyler Oakley was one of those who openly criticized the bunch, and even told people to unfollow influencers who are ‘bad influences.’

“If your favorite influencers are at huge house parties during a pandemic (& are dumb enough to post it on social media)… they are bad influences. unfollow them,” Oakley posted.

Larray responded to Oakley’s tweet with an apology, saying “I understand 100% where ur coming from & it was a dumb thing to do. I will do better & will actually take this shit seriously. appreciate you tyler much love.”

The other partygoers were also quick to admit to their wrongdoing. James Charles posted his public apology in one of his recent vlogs.

“Hi sisters! I decided to cut the party footage from the video. Even though I have been wearing a mask in public and have tested negative multiple times, going to a party during a pandemic was a selfish & stupid decision. People’s safety and keeping COVID-19 contained is FAR more important than celebrating a friends birthday and unsafe partying is not something I want to promote to my audience. I recognize that with my platform comes responsibility, and I encourage you guys to be smarter than I was—wear your masks and continue to social distance. Love you”

Similar to Charles, Tana Mongeau also posted her apology but on her Instagram stories.

“Partying/going to any social gatherings during a global pandemic was such a careless and irresponsible action on my behalf. I fully hold myself accountable for this + will be staying inside. Actions like that don’t deserve a platform and I want to fully apologize and be better than this. I’m sorry. While Erika and I were referring to past drama in our video the topic no longer matters—I need to be a better example and person.”

Her apology comes after she was highly criticized for attending not just Larray’s party, but also another party in Jake Paul’s house.
