WATCH: Students ride jet ski to receive high school diplomas

Twelve high school students ended their high school journey by riding a jet ski to claim their diplomas.

Somerset Island Prep held the unique graduation last Tuesday, May 26 in Florida, United States, as per the Miami Herald on May 28.

Each student took turns using a jet ski to get their diplomas from principal Tom Rompella, who was on a watercraft anchored to a boat on the sea.

Rompella described the unusual ceremony as the last “challenge” the students had to overcome before they “start their life,” as seen in a post on Facebook by Academica, the school’s affiliate.

Rompella and the students also followed precautions against drowning and the coronavirus by wearing life vests and face masks with their caps and gowns.

The idea for the unique graduation came from Nick Wright, a founder of a tutoring center which is partners with the said school.

None of the student’s parents nor the school had to spend for the jet ski since the rental service Fury Water Adventures lent it to them for free, as per report. The company also gave the students a free three-hour training course on the watercraft a day before the graduation. JB
