Show your friends some love with these Asian pop culture digital cards

No matter what side of the world you live in–whether that be in the East or the West–you would see semblances of popular Asian culture in social media. From the countless rice-related jokes to K-drama inspired pick-up lines, these pop culture references have been mentioned in multiple memes, posts, and even TikTok videos.

But one online user decided to use these Asian pop culture tropes to allow people to reconnect with their friends and family members (at a social distance) in a funny yet relatable way. Because instead of sending messages like “How are you doing?” or “What’s up?” to their loved ones, you can send these digital cards to show how much you care for them in your own special, Asian-centric way.

These cards were created by Facebook user Garrett Lee for the purpose of sharing a bit of fun and laughter on the internet. He says he was initially inspired to create these cards because of the Japanese show Terrace House.

“I looked for ways to create content specifically for ‘Terrace House’ and came up with the idea of doing Comic Sans-style valentines with some cheesy pick-up lines from the perspective of the characters on the show. I’ve done that for a couple [of] years now, and with the recent coronavirus outbreak, [I] saw a chance to tailor different Valentines [cards] to pull from both Asian popular culture and the current quarantine situation that we’re all going through to hopefully provide some comic relief to people during a difficult time,” he tells POP!

Lee’s digital cards contain references from popular K-dramas, Animal Crossing, and even myths we hear from our Asian moms. Check out some of his digital cards below:

He even created one for our current K-Drama fave, Crash Landing On You!

Lee shared that these images are part of the third set of digital cards he’s made. However, he hopes to make more in the future.

“There might be more in the future, though most of the time, I just end up creating content whenever I come up with an idea and go from there.”
