You want to do your part in helping frontliners during quarantine but afraid to step out of the house? Do you have a 3D printer at home? If you said yes to both questions, maybe you can copy what a Boy Scout in Canada has been doing during lockdown.
Quinn Roney is using his 3D printer to create “ear guards” for health care workers who absolutely must wear masks all day. The ear guards help to take the pressure off the ears from wearing a mask, which, let’s be honest, can really make the back of your ears feel sore after a whole day of just having the strings rub against it.
Roney started to print the ear guards after receiving requests from local hospitals for them. He made use of the Surgical Mask Strap Remix of @suraky or Ken Lord in his user account in www.thingiverse.com. Roney’s mother posted his son’s activities on social media and has since gone viral with over 267,000 post shares.
Per the designer, the strap has been reviewed and approved for use in a clinical setting by the US National Institute of Health.
If you want to recreate the straps and donate them to our local frontliners, you can find the design here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4249113
Good job, young man!
