This #POPCreators entry was submitted by Reajane Balbada-Abrigo, a public elementary school teacher, who also happens to be a poetry enthusiast and a freelance “opinion-maker.” Some of her previous works have been published in Mindanao Daily News, Newsline.ph, and Davao Daily Scoop.
Here’s her latest poem entitled “I Am A Hero No More”:
I Am A Hero No More
I am a hero no more,
That would always take home papers
Checking outputs of my learners.
I am a hero no more,
That would spend most of my time
In work, it’s more than a daily grind.
I am a hero no more,
That would always sacrifice my family time.
For in work I would always spend time.
To myself I am a hero no more,
For I disremembered “me time”,
for so long and not for a while.
I am a hero no more,
That would always spend weekends at school
And forget the church, and the Sabbath school.
I am a hero no more,
That even in signal no.2 storm,
still working at school.
I am a hero no more,
That irrespective of the bad weather
Finishing the reports is always my goal.
I am a hero no more,
That no matter what the circumstances,
It’s the APP, AIP, PPMP, and other papers
I would always think.
I am a hero no more,
That in spite of the State of Calamity declaration,
Submitting year-end reports is always my priority and mission.
Yes, to my job I am a hero no more.
For I have learned the lesson,
That it’s the family that most matter,
and the Great Creator above all.
