UP Manila College of Medicine to conduct a webinar titled ‘CoVIDgilance: A Situationer on CoVID-19’

The Mu Sigma Phi Sorority (MSPS) from the University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) College of Medicine is the first recognized medical sorority in Asia established in August 1934. Since our establishment, the Philippine community has greatly recognized the dynamic presence of the MSPS in the academe, the medical field and the development sector. One of the sorority’s flagship service projects is ImMUnity: An Ounce of Prevention, which advocates the importance of safeguarding one’s health from preventable diseases through vaccination and for years has been offering free vaccination and symposiums to the University of the Philippines – Manila community and to different localities in the Philippines.

Now in its 11th year, ImMUnity continues to crusade for its advocacy of promoting individual and community health. As the country is now in a state of calamity brought about by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (CoVID-19), ImMUnity hopes to inform the whole community regarding the virus and ways on how to prevent its spread most especially among the immunocompromised population (i.e. infants, pregnant women, elderly, etc.). Moreover, with the rampant spread of fake news and misinformation, ImMUnity wishes to provide people with reliable educational materials such as infographics and an online forum featuring experts on this field.

This year, in partnership with the City of Manila, University of the Philippines Manila, University of the Philippines College of Medicine, the Philippine General Hospital, and the Mu Sigma Phi Foundation, and in cooperation with Inquirer.net, we bring you a webinar entitled “CoVIDgilance: A Situationer on CoVID-19”. This will be held on March 24, 2020, Tuesday from 5:00PM-7:00PM and can be viewed from Facebook (@mspsimmunity), Youtube (tinyurl.com/mspsimmunitywebinar), and UPM Livestream (livestream.upm.edu.ph). This event will feature 3 lectures: first, on the overview of the CoVID-19 situation in the hospital-setting during a crisis by Dr. Regina Berba, Infectious Disease Specialist and Head of the PGH Hospital Infection Control Unit; second, on the management of CoVID-19 during pregnancy by Dr. Sybil Bravo, Obstetrician-Gynecologist and Infectious Diseases Specialist; and third, on the prevention of CoVID-19 spread in communities by Dr. Anthony Cordero, Director of the UP Manila Community and Health Development Program. This forum aims to enlighten the health students, professionals, local health officials and workers, and the lay people regarding the actions currently taken to avert this crisis and what can be done by the general public.
