A woman designed a custom postcard to offer help to people who are in self-quarantine amid the spread of COVID-19 globally.
Becky Wass, from Falmouth, Cornwall in England, decided to make it after feeling helpless over the news of the disease’s spread, as per Cornwall Live last Saturday, March 14.
She uploaded the card on her Facebook page on March 12 to encourage others to use it as well.
The postcard contains spaces for a person to write their name, address and phone number before giving it to someone in self-quarantine. It also has boxes which allows the recipient to choose which kind of help they need. The choices include: “picking up shopping,” “posting mail,” “a friendly phone call” and “urgent supplies.”
Wass’s design also reminds others that the coronavirus is contagious and that one should “take every precaution to ensure you are spreading only kindness.” She also stated that physical contact should be avoided by keeping a distance of at least 2 meters.
“Wash your hands regularly,” she added before instructing that items bought on someone else’s behalf should be left on their doorstep.
She included a link to a printable version of her design, adding that anyone is free to use it.
“If just one person feels less lonely or isolated when faced with this pandemic, then I’ll feel better about it (I hope!)” Wass said.
While she admits the virus is “scary,” she encourages others to “make kindness go viral.”
The post has since been shared over 8,800 times and already amassed over 5,400 likes.
Wass’s act of kindness has also reached Perth, Australia, where one of her friends lives, as per report. As for Wass, she and her husband, John Green, also gave out some of the postcards to their neighbors in Falmouth.
When asked about the response her gesture has received, she said, “The reaction has been amazing – it’s gone a bit out of control. It’s really lovely to see that people care.” JB
