Parents and employees at a school in Tennessee, United States raised money to buy a truck for a janitor who travels miles to get to work every day.
Robert Reed said that he has to take three buses and walk two miles to reach Farmington Elementary, as per NBC-affiliate WMC last Wednesday, Feb. 19.
After learning of the distance he travels daily, his colleagues and parents at the school decided to set up a GoFundMe page to buy him a truck. The initiative was started by one of the teachers, Elizabeth Malone.
She said that Reed “always has a smile on his face” and “goes above and beyond taking care of the needs in [the] facility.” Aside from using the truck to get to the school, Malone says it will also help Reed when he starts his side business of doing yard work.
The teacher told Reed about her initiative when they met at the school library on the same day, as per report.
Reed suddenly began crying as he hugged and thanked Malone. As of this writing, more than 1,100 people have donated to Malone’s GoFundMe page, totaling more than $45,000 (over P2.3 million).
Since the amount raised was beyond the $10,000 (around P511,000) goal, Malone now has a different surprise in mind for Reed.
“Our new plan is to provide him a truck, insurance, his tag, and lawn equipment/tools to start his lawn business,” she said in an update on the page.
“It is a blessing to bless others,” she added. “There is no better feeling in the world.” JB
