Join us as we forge a brighter path this February 19, 2020, from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the Mere Marie Anne De Tilly Convention Hall as St. Paul College Pasig – Humanities and Social Sciences (SPCP HUMSS) strand proudly presents this year’s HUMSS Congress: Tanglawan.
The word Tanglawan means “to provide light or guidance.” With this, the HUMSS Congress encourages fellow students to be a light to others by providing them with tools to engage in productive and meaningful discussions. It also delves into topics that are relevant to the current times. Aiming to widen perspectives, empower, and ignite the spark of courage within the youth, HUMSS Congress is annually hosted by the Grade 12 HUMSS Students of the institution.
The Congress is composed of four significant parts: Plenary Talks, Breakout Sessions, Paper Presentations, and a Quiz Bee.
- PLENARY TALKS
With two notable speakers in their respective fields, the plenary talks tackle an advocacy and a social issue. Topics such as governance and youth involvement are discussed, those of which are incited to raise awareness.
- BREAKOUT SESSIONS
This segment aims to further sharpen individuals’ critical thinking towards societal issues to encourage further involvement in urgent matters. It is composed of three different clusters, tackling separate topics wherein an expert in the field will give a talk and facilitate an activity afterward.
- PAPER PRESENTATIONS
The paper presentations will highlight the various SPCP HUMSS students’ track projects, initiatives, work immersion field trips, and research topics. This is also divided into three distinct sets of topics.
- QUIZ BEE
The quiz bee aims to challenge students’ knowledge on a wide array of HUMSS-related topics. It includes trivia questions about history, politics, culture, social trends, and the like that are categorized into three levels of difficulty.
Taking a step further, a mini organization fair will also take place. Four different organizations were invited to promote their advocacies. This aims to inspire students to take initiative in community engagements.
As bearers of the light, it is the youth’s duty to unceasingly illuminate the world and shed light on the issues that we encounter as each day dawns. Remaining vigilant and critical of the issues that surround us not only opens the eyes of some, but instead awakens many—igniting a flame in them, a flame that desires change. At the end of the day, the absolute goal of HUMSS Congress is to aid in trailblazing a path for everyone to have the bright futures that they yearn for. ‘
