The UP Engineering Society is the first college-wide academic organization of engineering students in the University of the Philippines Diliman. Standing true to its ideals, the UP Engineering Society upholds its mission in promoting academic excellence and has committed to provide service for the University and the community. This year, UP Engineering Society brings “SURGE 2020: Bringing Engineering To The Filipino Youth”.
SURGE is a Department of Education-accredited event for Grade 10 and Senior High School students which provides an introduction and understanding of the different fields in engineering. This will help senior high school students to know what field of engineering is close to their passion and what can maximize their strengths. The event will also provide some insights especially for Grade 10 students since they are already at that grade level wherein, they must choose their strand, thus, this might help them to consider STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) strand.
The engineering symposium is divided into two parts. The first part is a series of talks from engineers of different fields like Geodetic Engineering, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and other fields wherein they will be discussing the importance, opportunities, and relevance of engineering in the society. The second part is the laboratory tour wherein the students will be toured around different engineering laboratories available in the university in order to have a first-hand experience with the tools and machineries used in these fields.
This year, SURGE 2020 will be on the 8th of February and will be held at the Engineering Theatre, College of Engineering, University of the Philippines Diliman. All interested Grade 10 and Senior High School students are invited to be part of this one-day event. With Php 150.00 as the registration fee, you will be packed with knowledge and experience of the different engineering fields that work together in building our society.
