Twinlight Project kicked off the new decade with their debut event, Light Luster: Art Breaks Through, celebrating local independent art and music. Founders Gwyn Contreras, Jill Palec, and Gale de Ocampo started the Twinlight Project organization as a means to empower the independent creators in the local music and art scene.
Indie enthusiasts, art lovers, and OPM fans congregated last Friday at SaGuijo Bar + Events, Makati to show their support for the artists and musicians showcasing their work. The event began with an exhibit opening with the theme: “What keeps you up at night? What drive you during the day?” It showcased a mix of traditional and digital artwork by AerobicSalmon, Bianca Ruiz, Fatin Roma, Ella Carigma, Threena Umali, Pinya-Panic, Bash Ralleta, Gwendell Aranda, Sandy Sandoval, Angela Lagahit, and Paola Medenilla. As a commemoration of all types of local art, body artist Soleil Tattoo created custom tattoos for some lucky attendees on the spot.
The night went on with incredible musical performances by headliner Cheats, who also shared their excitement for a new production studio to partner with more bands and create better shows. They also had words of encouragement for new musicians, cheering them on to “just keep going!” For artists that “think of an idea, and you think it sucks, but you wanna do it anyway, just do it.”
Bands from the growing Twinlight Artist roster, Japo Vs. The French Girl, Cowbears and Simon (hearingkid), also played for Light Luster, showcasing the unique music style and creative spirit that the organization is looking to represent more. They were joined by Turn Me On Holly, Kent Tonscheck, Kaydin, Laraza, Something About Alexa, Ren, and Kaydee S.
After a successful launch with almost 200 people in attendance, Twinlight Project will branch out with more events dedicated to supporting local creators and inspiring collaboration within the local indie community.
