A couple from Indiana, USA, brought their wedding to the intensive care unit so the bride’s father could join them in their special occasion.

When Shelby Schweikhart and Jared Conville got engaged, they were not expecting to have their wedding at the hospital. But when Schweikhart’s father’s cancer returned, the couple decided to exchange their vows last minute and organized a wedding ceremony in half an hour at the Ascension St. Vincent Hospital on the first week of January. The couple initially planned to have their wedding on Oct. 3, 2020, according to Fox 59 on Jan. 7.

Schweikhart shared on Facebook on Jan. 2 a video of her and Conville tying the knot in front of her father in the ICU. In the clip, the couple can be seen surrounded by their loved ones as they exchange their vows.

Not the idea I had in mind for a wedding, but Jared and I got married! We received the news less than a month ago, that my dads cancer had came back. And it came back with a vengeance,” Schweikhart wrote. “The cancer had taken over his lungs, and he is not responding to chemo. Knowing we exhausted every hope, we planned a wedding in the ICU in less than 30 min.”

The intimate and simple wedding ceremony was, in Schweikhart’s words, the “most beautiful, bittersweet moment” of her life.

“My dad got to see his baby girl get married, and it meant the world to me that he was able to see it,” she said. “Shortly after the wedding, my dad wanted to stop the life support.”

In the end, Schweikhart said her father still remained with them, and she extended her gratitude to the hospital’s nursing staff  for helping them carry out the wedding ceremony.

“He’s still with us, and if you could continue praying for my family, I would so greatly appreciate it,” said Schweikhart. “Special thanks to the nursing staff at St. Vincent ICU, and my friends and family for making this all possible.”  /ra
