A young boy with Down syndrome earned admiration online for comforting his upset classmate, who has autism, with a hug.
The two kids (names withheld in the report) were in a classroom in Jalisco, Mexico, when the student with Down syndrome approached his classmate, as per Daily Mail last Thursday, Dec. 5.
The heart-warming moment was captured by a teacher at the school and posted on a Facebook page titled “Jalisco oculto” on Nov. 30.
The boy with Down syndrome appears to be wiping away the tears of his classmate before he leans in closer for an embrace. He then grabs his classmate’s arms and waves them in the air in what seems to be an attempt to cheer him up.
The thoughtful boy wipes away his classmate’s tears once more before the short clip ends.
The video has since gone viral with over 22 million views, more than 530,000 shares and 168,000 reactions as of writing. Days after, a netizen (@_SJPeace_) shared the video on Twitter, Dec. 3.
“This is EMPATHY in its purest form,” he said.
In light of the touching video, he also posted photos of his nephew who also has Down syndrome.
My nephew has "Down" Syndrome. I put that in quotation marks because there is nothing downs about it.
I've never seen anybody w/ the ability to empathize like he does.
