David Zwirner Gallery has announced that the new “Infinity Mirror Room” will be on view at its 20th Street space later this year.
The multi-reflective installation will be the centerpiece of a month-long exhibition on the Japanese artist.
Over the course of her career, Yayoi Kusama has produced more than 20 distinct “Infinity Mirror Rooms”, whose mirror-lined chambers are filled with flashing LED lights.
While each “Infinity Mirror Room” has its own colors and special effects, all challenge our perceptions of time and space.
Though the gallery has not released much information to this date, the forthcoming presentation will also feature Kusama’s signature polka dot paintings, immersive installations and new sculptures.
A flood of visitors can be expected, as past exhibitions dedicated to the Japanese artist have often been synonymous with long lines and time-stamped tickets.
In 2017, The Broad in Los Angeles implemented a strict 30-second selfie rule to help accommodate the crowds of Instagrammers that wandered through the exhibition “Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors”.
The work of Yayoi Kusama will be on show at David Zwirner in New York from November 9 through December 14. CC
